Clinical governance refers to the way in which standards of care, safety and quality are monitored across all UK healthcare establishments; it is mandatory for NHS organisations to comply with clinical governance initiatives. There are three key attributes of clinical governance – exemplary standards of care, transparency with patients and becoming actively responsible for those standards, and constantly striving for improvement. Typically, Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) will employ those responsible for clinical governance.
